Leslie Ditto Art

Happy Weekend! I cant tell you how happy I am to see it. I really enjoyed spending the holidays with my family, and I couldn't have asked for more. There was good food and even better company. I even received glow-in-the dark pajama pants, but we'll talk about that later. Maybe.

Earlier yesterday afternoon while I was wandering around Facebook, I was on the Steampunk page and saw a Mad Hatter art print. The artist's name was Leslie Ditto. I went to Google (quite fast) and found more of her art!
That hat!

Her paintings are so unique and just full of wonder.

Way too precious!
There are a lot more on her website You can even purchase some of them. I think I'll save some money up just so I can get my Mad Hatter!

Holiday Spirit, Where Are You?

I've been feeling very "blah" lately. A few weeks ago, you could just see the holiday spirit dripping out of me. Now that we're only 15 minutes from Christmas Eve, that holiday spirit has been sucked out of me. I'm going to blame it on the stress and anxiety.

When I was a little girl, the day after Thanksgiving was exciting for me; that meant the Christmas decorations were coming out! I can clearly remember my favorites: A jumping nutcracker ornament (I was constantly told to stay away from the tree because I was always playing with it), a Santa with his reindeer cardboard cut-outs, and this long, leather-type thing with jingle bells on it. My sister and I would always try to do some sort of Christmas song on it. Jingle Bells was the only song we got right for obvious reasons.

When Mom would bring out boxes and boxes of decorations, I'd get that warm, fuzzy feeling all over. It made me want to watch every Christmas movie/special ever made, listen to every Christmas song out there, become giddy with  excitement. To be honest, I miss those times. Christmas was full of wonder and magic in my young eyes.

For the past month and a half I have been dealing with an infection that is as stubborn as they come. Almost 3 weeks of antibiotics have left my poor immune system weak. I spent most of my time worrying if I ever was going to heal by the time New Years came around. Well, I have good news! I am 99.1% (that .1 is important, I promise) the way there! I am no longer on antibiotics and should be good by 2014.

This holiday season just hasn't felt magical. As much as I try to force myself to get into it, I just can't. I am hoping that as Christmas Eve day goes on, I'll get it back.

Happy Holidays from The Geeky Nutcase!

Geek-Inspired Tree Ornaments

Since I'm planning next year's tree and how I want it to look, I decided to go on a hunt for new ornaments. Our ornament collection is small so I really want to expand it to reach several miles. Okay... maybe just one mile. I've already planned to have a small, white Star Wars tree. Now, we move onto the big enchilada. The main tree that everyone gathers around and gawks at.

I must confess, robots are cool. They are just cool! So, I found these little cuties from Christmas Central.
The price of $64.99 (for 6) is a little more than I'd be willing to pay, but I can admire it from afar. (Psst, they have a lot more robot ornaments.)

Any Harry Potter fans? While I've fallen out of love with the series, I have a soft spot for Dobby.
That expression. Those eyes. *sigh*

I have to say that I never get tired of watching Ghostbusters. It was such a huge part of my childhood, and I sometimes like to relive it- even if includes wanting a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man of my own.

Calling all Whovians! Calling all Whovians! I must warn you not to blink at this next ornament. Although, it is very, very cute. A tiny killer on your tree.
I must hang you on my tree next year!

I am on the hunt for a well-made Star Wars wreath to hang near my little Star Wars tree next year. I shall find one! Luckily, I have someone who is a great finder of stuff. I think I'll call in a favor.

2014: What's In Store?

(Thanks to my sister for the image. She's awesome.)

I realize that we haven't even reached New Years yet, but as I was nursing some side effects from antibiotics for a nasty infection, I had some thinking time. Since I was barely here this year, I am going to change that! So here are my 2014 goals:

  • Update more. I promise!! I remember what it felt like to work on my novel/book, and blogging does the same for me. (Mental goal: Work more on the book, you lazy bum.)
  • More DIY. I've decided that I want to stir my creativity just a wee bit more. Now, I just have to keep myself from buying out every craft store in a 15 mile radius.
  • Books I love and hate. This, of course, will be a maybe. We'll call it an "experiment" for the time being.
  • A few giveaways. You read that right- giveaways. At some point, you'll get to win some really cool, awesome s*it. (It says "spit," I promise.)
It is a short list.... for the moment. As we actually walk through the year, it might actually grow a lot longer. As always, I am open to suggestions. E-mails are great, so just shoot me one if you feel more comfortable. It's in the upper right-hand corner. That purple box with icons. It's the first envelope.

Luke, I Am Your Snowflake

I live in Texas, and in my area, we don't get snow. If and when we do, it's only a light dusting- pretty, but snowball fight or snowman making it isn't. Because I love the cold weather as well, I get excited if I even see snow flurries. That's pretty sad, isn't it? You can agree. I won't be offended.

Since we are forever bereft (I just realized I haven't used that word in such a long time. Seriously, how often does it come up in normal, everyday conversation?) of snow, I decided to make my own paper snowflakes. Remember those you would often make in elementary school? However, these are a lot different than the glittered ones we made when we were 5. Thanks to Pinterest (once again), I found templates to Star Wars snowflakes.

Click on the picture to be taken to them!

Since I totally skipped last year in snowflake making, I'm jumping on the train this year. Herrera's 2013 designs include the Rancor, Solo in Carbonite.... you get the idea. Those I will do later. For now, we decided to stick with his designs from 2012 like Luke, Ewok, Leia, Yoda.
R-2 looks somewhat like a dalek.

(PS: Did I mention these are completely free to download? Cause they are.)
Imperial Royal Guard (by Mom)

Scout Trooper (done by sis!)

Darth Vader (Moi!)

A little bit of advice? An X-Acto knife will come in handy for those tiny little pieces. Lesson learned the hard way! By the way, if you are bad with scissors, choose an easy design. My poor Ewok didn't make it this time.

If you have trouble with the accordion-style, the video really helps!

Happy Holidays from my family to yours!

I'm Back!

First off, I just want to apologize for taking off and just leaving the blog to get dusty.

Now, why did I just leave? Well, I needed to step back and deal with the anxiety demons that didn't want to go away. I was feeling "smothered" by said demons, so I needed to re-evaluate what I was doing wrong in handling every day situations. Luckily, I was able to lasso those suckers!

Good news, though: I am doing MUCH better! Although there are several times I've had nervous breakdowns, that number is smaller than it has before. As I said when I started The Geeky Nutcase, writing allowed me to concentrate on something other that my anxiety. To keep that same feeling, I've decided to start it up again. I am as happy as a Stormtrooper finally hitting his target. (Well, I'm happy about it nonetheless.)

(Imagine this area as a hilarious venture into how crazy the holidays are and sleep doesn't happen.)

So I am pretty sure I am 95% finished with everything that needs to be done. Just a few more things and I will have scratched off everything on my list- except make those gorgeous Christmas cookies you see on Pinterest. One day, my sweets.... one day.

Oh, and before I end this reintroduction post, here is a picture of our tree.
It's so pretty! It has had several hugs with the floor thanks to our furry, four-legged destroyers. Now it mainly consists of plastic and paper ornaments. I'm hoping to remedy the disaster area of ornament deaths next year.

Geektastic Thursday: Entertainment Earth

I know I said I was going to welcome in a new website that had followed me on Pinterest. However, I learned of a new website! This one is bad to the bone (I know. I know.). Their headline is "Bring Hollywood Home." Squealing with delight, I knew which one I would choose. So, without further dudes.......... (Family Guy references....)

(PS: On a funny note, he looks like he's just released a bowling ball towards the pins)

Excuse me while I dance around with excitement. I love classic horror/sci-fi movies, so this was [almost] the perfect find. Almost.

Confession: I love Grumpy Cat, and she is absolutely my favorite kitty (besides my own furry feline.) In September 2013, there will be a plush of her coming out! Who's going to get one? Anyone? Bueller?

There can't be a Geektastic Thursday without throwing in some Star Wars. To be honest, I've always wanted either a life-sized replica of Yoda or R2-D2. Imagine the fun that would ensue if you invited your other geeky friends over to re-enact scenes. A 1:1 size is perfect for me!

Game of Thrones seems to be a really hot topic as of lately. I haven't followed it yet (hopefully soon), but I thought I'd add some in here for those who are addicted to it. Although I don't know much about it, I would totally put this pair on any shelf!

I can't end this without showing something classic. Classic as in 1982. It's an iconic film about an alien, whose famous line is, "E.T. Phone home." Crap! I gave it away. Oh well... this is another replica that I must have! (Of course, it doesn't come out until August of this year, so I will have to wait. Sigh.)

I'm pretty sure I'll be spending the rest of the day adding things to a different lists, such as "Want," "Must Have," "Eh. I'll take it," or "YES YES YES!"

Anxiety Update: #1,377 (And some other stuffs)

So, it's been a while since I've updated on anything. My apologies. There are a few reasons behind this, and it's not because I was lazy. It's not because I wanted to avoid doing it as long as I could. (Okay, maybe it was 2% laziness.)

The main reason is because I was lucky to even get out of bed and embrace whatever sunshine had been shining through the curtains. My anxiety this past week and a half has been horrible with a capital "sucks." It was a train wreck. Nothing had seemed to calm me down except sleeping. Sleeping is where I can go off to another realm of happiness; where there are unicorns, rainbows, and weird other things. Actually, there are no unicorns, or rainbows. I tried reading, but nothing seemed to work. Of course, I do most of my reading in the wee morning hours between 1:30 am and 3:00 am. It's quiet, and I can actually concentrate. (Us anxiety nutcases have a hard time doing that sometimes...)

Today has been a good one for me. I've had little to no anxiety. If I had any rhythm or grace, I'd do a little happy dance. Believe me, you don't want to see it.

Although I had no Geektastic Thursday this past week (I just wasn't feeling it), there will be one this week! I've got a new website to show you, and it's all thanks to them following me on Pinterest. I think it was meant to be! Luckily, I have a day to get it ready, so procrastination will be no more. I just have to find that center of concentration and run with it. (Here's where I'm thanking Pinterest and Facebook for their ability to distract me. Crafty, crafty...)

I have no idea how I'm going to end this particular random post. So, I think I'll just include a picture of a bird painted on the side of a building. (The other side of the building had "Only Love Can Make It Rain. This one was cooler.)
I still haven't figured out what kind of bird. I just love those blue colors, though.

Steampunk DIY Links

I'm going to be lazy with this today. The heat we've been having lately has turned my brain into mush. Not only that, but my anxiety is a little high (facing another anxiety fear tomorrow. Oh joy.).

Earlier today, my twin sister was feeling crafty. So, on her wild Pinterest binge, she decided that sometime in the next few months, she'd do a Steampunk DIY with me! I almost got so excited I jumped up and down. However, I was too lazy to move that much at that moment. I am slowly pulling her into the Steampunk hole- where she will not escape it's grasp.

*ahem* I've gotten off track.

Anywho, this lead me to search for goggle DIY. This is for the fact that it'd be much more fun to make them instead of buy them. While I came across a ton of good ones, some of them involved tools I don't have- like a dremel. I might have to invest in one in the future. Ya know? Just in case another "OHMYGODIMUSTMAKEIT!" do-it-yourselfer comes along.

So I don't delay the linkage any further with the rambling, here's a few of the ones I found that I absolutely loved:

NERF Gun into Steampunk Gun (To the store!)
Steampunk Mr. Potato Head (AAH!! ADORABLE!!)
Steampunk Pocket Belt (To the store again!)
Steampunk Gauges (Gauges. Gauges. Gauges.)

Now, I know this isn't exactly a something for a Steampunk outfit, but these cupcakes are too cute. These would be good for my birthday in December (hey family, hinty hint hint!)

Steampunk Cupcakes (I'm in love with that hat.)

I'll be dreaming of those cupcakes tonight!

Happy Geek Pride Day!

A few days ago, I received an e-mail that said "Happy Geek Pride Day!" I didn't really know we had a day, so I had to search to see what day it actually landed on- and that would be May 25th.

We. Have. A. Day. Hooray!!

Let your geek flag fly!!! (I need to get me a flag to actually fly. If you see a flag that says "Geek" on it, would you pass it to me?)

In other news, I've decided to do a caffeine cleansing of my body. I will be going 30 days without any soda, or pop. So far, I'm on day two, and I'm not sure how well this will go over. I know that I'm doing it for my health. Studies show/say that caffeine makes anxiety worse. It's not just for my anxiety health, but as well as for my physical health. However, I am starting to crave that carbonated goodness! That syrupy, dark, overloading-my-tastebuds goodness.

I've heard that it takes 30 days to break a habit. In that case, there are other habits I need to break, but I'd be pretty boring without those habits. Plus, having some sort of "routine" allows me to concentrate on something else other than the anxiety.

One foot in front of the other, right? I SHALL CONQUER THE CAFFEINE MOUNTAIN! (that sweet, sweet mountain....)

Geektastic Thursday: Computer Stuffs

Good evening, geeks and geekettes! It's been a rough week for me as far as anxiety goes. while some days were better than others, overall I'm glad that this week is close to ending. The weekend is within my grasp, and I plan to take hold of it as tightly as I can!

I bow down to Saturday and Sunday!
Now I wish I had a desktop PC.

I've been recently thinking of buying some things to make my computer seem "cooler." Right now, it's just this bland of a technology thing. While it gets the job done, I just want something cool to stare at while I get some work done. Maybe that's what attributing to my laziness.... (We'll just go with that, m'kay?)

I had a little help with this week's Geektastic Thursday. My assistant's (I'm calling Twin my assistant in this instant. HA!) research skills are much stronger than my own at the moment.

As of lately, I've been obsessed with USB flash drives. I couldn't tell you why. (WHY MUST I RHYME WITH EVERY SENTENCE????). I'm guessing that it's because I always think I have way too much crapola on this thing, and worry about running out of space.
Seriously, childhood memories!

While I share the "office" space with pretty much anyone, I'm not sure how much I need a protector for it. To be honest, I'd only get it just so I can scare the cats with it.

Okay, I've got 3 words for you: USB Rocket Launcher. What comes to mind? Nothing? Let the fun begin! (Believe me, you'll want this just for the sheer hilarity of the things you could launch.)

At night, I have one lone lamp that lights up my work area. It works, but eh.... it's pretty bland. Pretty normal. If you know me, I'm no where NEAR normal. I want this bad boy! (And somehow, the "Cops" theme song pops into my head after saying that.)

I think I'll spend a few more hours coming up with a list of things I must have. That's right. Must. Have.

Geektastic Thursday: It's BATMAN!

After an up and down week of anxiety, I'm happy to concentrate on something else. Yay for superheroes!

Who has the number? Oh wait...

It was a choice between Batman, Spiderman, or Star Trek. Batman won the invisible coin toss.

I don't remember when I first saw it, but a few years ago, I saw Domo Kun, and I've become somewhat entranced with him. So, while browsing for this week's Geektastic Thursday, I saw something I have to share! You'll love it. I promise.

I'm drooling right now. It's not because there's chocolate around, but because of some heels I've found. Batman + High-heeled shoes= Ecstasy for this woman! *thumbs up goes here*

Sock monkeys are cute, right? Confession: I have a tiny sock monkey that has no friend, nor does he have a body guard. He currently sits on a shelf with Little Gene Simmons, who just wants to play his guitar. So, I think I might have to get this little guy for their protection.

I don't have kids, but I know many of ya'll do. If you have little girls, I'm sure rompers are much more useful at times. Batman to the rescue!

I'd like to thank both of my parents for any Batman movies/shows that was shown during my childhood. Good choice!

Steampunk Browsing

Let's see.... It's the day after Mother's Day, and it's a Monday. Even the word "Monday" makes me want to run and hide until tomorrow. For some reason, Mondays tend to be considered evil in this house- even with positive thinking that it'll be a good day.

Perhaps one day, it will be just as great as the weekend is.

On one upside, I am facing one of my anxiety fears today. That's something, right?

Anywhooooo.... I'm still coming up with my Steampunk persona. So while I somewhat have it down, I've been doing some online browsing, all the while drooling over delicious clothes, accessories and whatnot. There are several places that I have fallen in love with and keep a close eye on.

Rebels Market has become my #1 place for wishlisting. The amount of money I've spent in my head is staggering. Of course, this is just in my head, and I'm thankful that my bank account won't allow me to buy 95% of it. Thank you, bank account.

Here are a few of my faves that I'm absolutely ga ga over.
Not exactly steampunk-ish, but I. LOVE. IT.

I don't mind that it's made for a gentleman. I must have it!

It looks like a robot, doesn't it?

I'm mesmerized by the color alone.
A few other of my favorite websites are:

Clockwork Couture
Steampunk Emporium

And of course...

May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

I had no idea how I was going to start this particular post.

I could have...

  1. Rehashed the fact that I have an anxiety disorder. We all know that by now!
  2. Started with "Did you know how many people in the United States have....."
  3. Started with a few sentences on how I never get enough sleep before going into why May was dubbed Mental Health Awareness Month.
I find it weird how there's a stigma attached to those who do have mental health problems. If you have anxiety, you're just paranoid. If you're depressed, then you need to get over it. There's no way one can possibly break the vicious cycle that is wired within our brains. There's no "shut off" button (or none that I've found) that we can just push and turn it all off.

Mental Health Awareness Month is raising awareness for all of those who do suffer from some form of it. Depression and anxiety aren't just the only ones. There's stress (there is such a thing as chronic stress), schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorders, and much more.

Before I was diagnosed, I had no idea that I'd ever be part of raising awareness for mental disorders. But now I understand what it's all about. It's just not about saying "I'm not letting my mental disorder define me," but it's getting out the information ABOUT them. Not everyone understands/knows what someone with Bipolar Disorder goes through, or how a schizophrenic lives their life day to day.

Because I do have this blog, and I do let you in my [almost] day-to-day life of anxiety, I'm at least getting the word out there little by little.

Geektastic Thursday: The Nightmare Before Christmas

I've been procrastinating again! Every time I think that I'll finally have another Geektastic Tuesday, I say to myself, "Well, I'm sure that it can wait another hour." Eventually, it becomes 2 days before I realize, "Holy blazing balls! Where did Tuesday go? I'm pretty sure we skipped that day." Just another day in paradise.

Anyone a fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton? No? Yes? Maybe? I am! I remember that I was 9 when it came out. Wait, let me do some math to confirm this. Confirmed it is. My mom thought it was too scary for me and my sister at the time; so, she waited until we were 13 to let us watch it.

Can you believe that it was 20 years ago this year when it came out? Wow.....

I was going to say "Rarely do I gush over shoes..." But the woman/girly part inside of me screamed with glee when I saw these bad boys. Hand painted? Even my own "drawing" of Jack comes out looking weird.

With Spring somewhat around (I say somewhat because we keep having cold spells), I love planting flowers whenever I can get away with it. It's a shame I can't find any flower pots.... OH WAIT! I found some!

Confession: Oogie Boogie used to scare the living daylights out of me. Luckily, I've found the perfect costume for Halloween this year! Sah-weeeeet!

I don't have a lot of jewelry, but I'm slowly accumulating some. Right now, the few pieces I do have are in a padded, yellow envelope. I know, perfect place for them, right? Would this just be awesome?

Girls night out. It just screams drinks and dancing- or wine and chocolate at home with movies of Johnny Depp. I'd drink wine out of this and make it a (or is it "an") unique experience!

I think it's time I pop in my VHS tape (Yes. I still have a VCR!), grab some chips, soda, and my bestie!

Free Comic Book Day

Good evening, my geeks and geekettes. Today wasn't as productive as I would have thought. I was, however, invited to write a post on my anxiety at Edge of Insanity. So when you get done here, hop on over there and read it if ya want. (Here's where I'll beg 'pretty please.')

On May 4, comic book shops/stores around the country (I'm sure it's just not in the US) will give everyone a free comic book to anyone who visits them. I've never participated, but I'm very tempted to do it this year. There are several stores in my city that are participating, and who doesn't like free stuff? Especially comics.

So, because I'm fairly new to FCBD, here's a few hundred links that could explain it better than I could. I promise to keep it to a minimum.

FAQ (Read iiittt!)
The Comics (I'm just linking because I think it could be helpful in some sort of way.)
Creator Signings (In select cities. I'm completely jealous!)

And for the piece de resistance, the store locator!!
The Store Locator

I'm not sure why, but I'm super-duper excited about this. Against her will, I will be dragging my sister along. She'll enjoy it. Hopefully.

Labyrinth Love

Today I'm not feeling my best. I think I'm coming down with something that requires tissue and a huge amount of T.V. time while snuggling with my favorite kitty.

I was fiddling around Pinterest when I came across a drawing by James Hance. If you haven't seen any of his work, you better go check his website out! Here's his website: Relentlessly Cheerful Art. Serious talk, it is cheerful in it's own way.

In the UK? Here's his UK shop link: UK shop link

His art is geeky awesome! You have Doctor Who, Star Wars, Labyrinth, and others I can't quite pin-point due to my mushy brain at the moment.

Ludo & Jareth or Smugglers of the Labyrinth

GAH! Knock me over with a feather. I can't even....

I'm done drooling now.

Geektastic Thursday: Doctor Who Invasion

I know it's not a Geektastic Tuesday. I'll be honest- I was too lazy to do it. I also know that I could have just scheduled said GT to post, but I was lazy about that, too. Will you accept my apologies with this fantabulous Doctor Who stuff?

I'm going to be honest. I haven't gotten into Doctor Who yet. It's not that it doesn't appeal to me, it's just that I don't know where to even start on watching the series. Maybe eventually I'll find a way and fall in love just like the rest of the world. (Wee little note: If you guys have any suggestions, I'm wide open to em!)

Even though Easter and April are almost over and done with, who says you can't have hand-painted TARDIS Easter eggs? They'll look good any time of the year!

Confession: I don't have a home office. Wherever there's a spot open in the house, that's where me and my laptop sit. In my head though, I have the "blueprints" to my future home office. Yeah, baby! (By the way, here's a lamp you'll want for YOUR office.)

I remember when I was a little girl in school, we were told to do dioramas. I think I did one on the sea or ocean. Either that, or it was.... no, it was on the sea/oceans. Mom and I worked on it because she cut the little fishes and I did the gluing. I'd do the water waves (at least that's what I said they were), and she'd guide me to where to put them. Dioramas- aren't they fun?

When I think I've seen all the wedding toppers in the world, there are always one or two that take me by surprise. Although I'm neither married, engaged, or even in a relationship (insert "forever alone" face here), they are still fun to look at. I can only imagine what creative cakes go with those toppers.

Confession 2 (or maybe it's number 3): My finger nails are plainly painted with a sparkly black. I don't have hands steady enough to try those outrageous (outrageous in a good way) designs. These might make me feel better.

So all of you Whovians, go shopping, will ya?
